Preliminary design for the mock film poster used in Steven Spielberg’s second Jurassic Park film, The Lost World. During the sequence where the T-Rex terrorizes San Diego, we are treated to a scene in which an out of control bus smashes into a video store. In the front window of the store we briefly glimpse a film poster for King Lear starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This inside joke was apparently a reference to Schwarzenegger's brief portrayal of "Hamlet" in his 1993 film Last Action Hero -- the unsuccessful blockbuster that was shunted to box office obscurity by the release of the first Jurassic Park the week before. Named by the Boston Globe as "the greatest poster artist of our time," Struzan is one of the most successful film artists of the past 40 years, having painted more than 150 movie posters, including all of the films in the Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars series as well as non-Spielberg/Lucas features such as Rambo, Blade Runner, and Harry Potter. This "17”x25" preliminary design is not the same poster shown in the film, which, though similar, is larger and has added graphics. No other copy of this poster, in any format, has previously appeared on the market.
